My Fashion Origins
My birthday is coming up soon, and I always find this time of year makes me a little reflective. It feels like the perfect moment to pause, share a bit more about myself, and look back at where this journey really began.
My love for fashion started long before I ever called it a career. I grew up watching my father, a tailor, carefully transform fabric into garments. I was fascinated by the precision of his work, the way he could take a flat piece of cloth and turn it into something beautiful and wearable. Without realizing it, I was absorbing the foundations of design and craftsmanship just by being in the room.
By the time I reached high school, I felt the pull to try it myself. I did not have formal training, but I had determination and curiosity. I started experimenting with sewing, often on a mannequin, pinning and shaping fabric into garments. At the time, I did not know the technique had a name, which was draping. I just knew I wanted to create clothing that was mine.
Part of my motivation came from necessity. Growing up on a small island, shopping options were limited. It was not unusual to walk into a room and see someone else wearing the exact same outfit. Because I could only afford to shop at certain stores, I did not want anyone to know where my clothes came from. On top of that, I could not always afford the trendy styles that were popular at the time. Sewing became my solution. It allowed me to dress differently, to stand out, and to wear pieces that reflected who I was.
It was not easy at first. There were countless mistakes, missteps, and ill-fitting garments along the way. But with every attempt, I got better. Eventually, my pieces started to actually fit and flatter me. The joy I felt wearing something I had created for myself was unmatched, and soon others started noticing too. Friends, family, and even strangers would ask where I got my clothes. That was when I realized I could use my skills to help others feel the same sense of confidence and individuality that sewing gave me.
What began as a way to solve my own problem grew into something much larger. I started offering custom sewing services, not just to make clothes, but to create pieces that helped people look and feel their very best. For me, clothing has always been about more than just fabric and thread. It has always been about expression, empowerment, and the confidence that comes from wearing something that is uniquely yours.
And that is how my brand was born. It is rooted in the lessons I learned from my father, shaped by the challenges of my environment, and fueled by my passion to give others the freedom to embrace their individuality. As I celebrate another birthday, I carry those lessons with me and remind myself that every stitch, every design, and every piece I create still holds the same purpose: to inspire confidence, celebrate uniqueness, and tell a story, just like mine.
